St. Petersburg, Fl: In the latest installment of St. Petersburg Preservation’s popular program series “Perspectives,” the notion of Creative Placemaking will be explored by some of St. Petersburg’s recognized arts leaders. St. Petersburg, with it’s five arts districts, blossoming public arts scene, and young engaged citizens serves as a model for creative placemaking. Creative Placemaking leverages the arts, culture, and individual’s creativity to serve the community’s interest, resulting in positive growth that builds character and quality of place.
This panel discussion will offer a look back at St. Petersburg’s historic past with the arts and provide a glimpse into the future in exploring how successful a community can be when its artists are explicitly called upon to think about how their work can play a role in placemaking.
Panelists include Elizabeth Brincklow, St. Petersburg’s Arts and International Relations Manager, Jeff Schorr, Owner of Craftsman House Gallery and member of St. Petersburg’s Arts Steering Committee, Carrie Jadus, Artist, Softwater Studios; and Robert Stackhouse, Artist, Mickett-Stackhouse Studio. The program will take place at the historic Softwater Laundry building, dating from the early 1930’s and today successfully being reused for artists’ studios within the area known as the Warehouse Arts District.
