TAMPA, FLORIDA, April 4, 2014 More than 800 of Florida’s best and brightest college students traveled to the magical city of Orlando to make some magical memories of their own as they showcased their talents as future business leaders and vied for the opportunity to represent the State of Florida at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee this summer.
Florida Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL), held its State Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida on March 27–30, 2014. Colleges and Universities from all over the state of Florida came out for this exciting conference themed “Tomorrow Begins Today” to take action and control of their future today as they sharpened their core business skills, expanded their networks, and participated in over 55 business-related competitive events.
Eight students from The University of South Florida Tampa Campus attended the conference and competed in a variety of events. Competitors included Nicole Albarella, Eric Bautista, Gladys Castillo, Paul DeCosta, Isaac Ibiapina, Jane Noel, Dan Singleton, and John Young. Among these bright members, winners included: Eric Bautista, who competed in Financial Services and brought home First Place. This event tested the knowledge and understanding of the skills necessary in the general operations of various components of the financial services industry. Isaac Ibiapina, who competed in Marketing Concepts and Marketing Analysis & Decision Making; bringing home Third Place in both events. These events tested the knowledge of basic marketing principles as well as knowledge across the core curriculum in the area of marketing. And finally, Dan Singleton, who competed in Computer Applications and brought home Third Place. This consisted of demonstrating computer application skills in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, and business graphic solutions. Additionally, at the FBLA State Leadership Conference USF Chapter Adviser, Sarah Rasheid was elected to serve as Florida FBLA-PBL Professional Division President.
These students will go on to represent the State of Florida at the National Leadership Conference this summer in Nashville, Tennessee June 24-27, 2014. The entire chapter is excited to have competed, and are confident that these members will do an outstanding job represent USF and Florida.
