|The Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County, Inc (ELC) is once again playing a leading role in support of 2014 Children’s Week, which will take place in Tallahassee between April 6-11.
To support Children’s Week statewide many local communities host events in their counties to further promote the commitment to Florida’s children and families:
Every Child a Reader (Mon, April 7 – Fri, Apr 11 2014)
Every Child a Reader is the result of a partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Bradenton and the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee to promote early literacy. This year, the Coalition is pleased to welcome the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Foundation to the partnership! Each year community leaders visit classrooms of 3 to 5 year old children in an early learning facility and read a book to the children. After the book is read, the volunteer gives each child his or her own book to read with their families. The volunteer’s book is left in the classroom so that the teacher can continue the momentum built by this event. For more information contact: Lisa Morrison (941) 757-2900 ext. 221
Children’s Parade and Party in the Park (Fri, Apr 18 2014, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm)
This free and family friendly event, sponsored by the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society, will take place on April 18th. This walking parade starts at the fairgrounds in Palmetto and ends in Sutton Park. The Party in the Park takes place in Sutton Park to entertain children and educate parents. Approximately 20 agencies that serve children have activities for children and literature for parents. There are also bounce houses, pitching machines, giant slides, and the parade award ceremony. At various intervalstimes, the Early Learning Coalition hosts a reading corner. Local dignitaries read a book to the children and then each child gets his or her own copy of the book.
