The Invention Convention – 10am to 1pm
The 3rd Annual Red, White and Craft Brews Fest – 5pm to 9pm
Largo, FL (April 2, 2014) The Armed Forces History Museum will welcome back-to-back events on Saturday, May 17th. The first ever Invention Convention will take place between 10am and 1pm. Back by popular demand, the very successful 3rd Annual Red, White and Craft Brews Fest will return from 5pm to 9pm. Please note that following the conclusion of the Invention Convention, the museum will be closed until 5pm, allowing the museum time to prepare for the Brews Fest.
The Invention Convention will feature over 30 gifted kindergarten through fifth grade children from Pinellas County Schools showcasing and sharing their inventions to the public, as well as to judges from the Tampa Bay Inventors Council. Thus far, inventions will be for babies, camping, food utensils, school supplies, showers, sports and much more. Eleven Pinellas County schools will be participating including Bauder Elementary, San Jose Elementary, Leila Davis Elementary, Lake St. George Elementary, Cypress Woods Elementary, Dunedin Elementary, Sunset Hills Elementary, Sutherland Elementary, Skycrest Elementary, Eisenhower Elementary and Curlew Creek Elementary. Each participating school will select the top three inventions that will move onto the Invention Convention. Each school has their own judging committee to make the school based decision. These gifted children have been learning about inventors and inventions throughout this academic school year, and creating their own invention is their culminating project after learning much about history such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Leonardo daVinci and more.
The Tampa Bay Inventors Council judges will be looking for creativity, originality, problem solving, model of the invention, design, and documentation. Children may also include a promotional spin inclusive of a logo, slogan or jingle. These creative children will be vying for the first place prize of $1000. The second prize will be an iPad and the third prize will be a mini iPad.
The event is included in the museum’s regular admission prices of $17.95 for adults, $12.95 for youths 4-12, and $14.95 for veterans and seniors 65+. Hot dogs and snacks will be available for purchase in the museum’s Officers’ Club. The event is sponsored in part by Walgreens, the Tampa Bay Inventors Council and the Pinellas County Schools.
At 1pm, the museum will close as over 75 craft and specialty brews are delivered in preparation of the 3rd Annual Red, White and Craft Brews Fest, which begins at 5pm. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever as it has expanded to both indoor and outdoor spaces. Guests can sample over 75 brews, receive souvenir tasting glasses, enjoy a photo booth, beer and cheese pairings, limited rare beer sampling, a food truck rally, and live music from Attic Records own Cutty Jones, who will be performing outdoors on a 5 ton 6×6 British military amphibious cargo carrier.
