Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in f minor, Op. 8, and Borodin’s Strong Quartet No. 2 at The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota) on Friday, April 18 at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 for the general public and can be purchased on line at www.GPACTIX.com.
The Chroma Quartet was formed in 2008 by violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda, violist Michael McClelland, and cellist Abraham Feder. Individually, the members of Chroma Quartet have performed chamber music around the world to great critical acclaim. Their first concert was performed in Bradenton on the series “Music in Unfinished Spaces”. Since then, the Chroma Quartet has been performing throughout Florida. The 2013 season marked the inauguration of their series “First Tuesdays at First Church” in Sarasota. The Chroma Quartet is committed to programming works by living composers along with compositions that have found their place among the jewels of the quartet repertoire.
When the four musicians who make up Chroma Quartet started performing they knew they had something special going. “Right away our sounds melded together musically,” says cellist Abe Feder. Since then audiences have proven them correct. “People are excited. They love the intimacy, the melting together of our music. They can see our personality come out in our music,” Feder says.
Besides Feder the ensemble consists of violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda, and violist Michael McClelland, all of them musicians in the Sarasota Orchestra where they first met.
