|Families with children, aged 2 –12 years, can look forward to a coming attraction at Manatee Village Historical Park in Bradenton. The Manatee County Historical Commission is pleased to announce that three organizations: The City of Bradenton, Kiwanis Club of Bradenton Foundation, Inc. and Mosaic have granted generous financial assistance toward the purchase of train-themed commercial play equipment. Representatives from the Kiwanis Club of Bradenton, Inc. initially approved a grant in December of 2013, provided the Manatee County Historical Commission match the award amount by August, 2014. The City of Bradenton and Mosaic recently helped the Manatee County Historical Commission meet the challenge by contributing the remaining funds. This project is a wonderful example of what public-private partnerships can accomplish to enrich our community. The groundbreaking ceremony for installation of the colorful, double-decker playground equipment will be announced in coming months.
Residents know “Old Cabbagehead”, the 1913 Baldwin steam locomotive located at Manatee Village, as a beloved local landmark, having welcomed generations of visitors to Bradenton from its former home on the south bank of the Manatee River. The installation of train-themed play equipment will provide an alternative play area and additional family friendly feature to the Park as many children are drawn to the train. It will also aid in reducing wear and tear on this structure and enhance preservation of this landmark for future generations. Improvement efforts such these, like all activities at the Manatee Village Historical Park, are done in partnership between the non-profit Manatee County Historical Commission, Inc. and the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court’s Historical Resources Department.
The Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Avenue East, is open to all residents and visitors. The Park contributes to the quality of life for all, serving as a unique tourist attraction as well as an educational laboratory providing a window into the history of Manatee County.
