Tampa, FL – March 27, 2014 A Legal Checkup for Growing Businesses is the second in a series of workshops being offered by the Florida Small Business Development Center at Pinellas County as part of its Business Growth Series. This course helps the owners and executives of existing businesses better understand and navigate the complex maze of laws and regulations that impact their daily operations. This workshop will be presented by noted local business attorney John Schnackel, who is a frequent presenter on topics of legal interest to the business community at forums all across the Tampa Bay area.
“Business owners and managers usually want to operate their companies in accordance with the law, ” said Schnackel “but sometimes they just don’t know what they don’t know, and when it comes to the law, that can often result in a problem for them. As the old legal maxim goes… ignorance of the law is no excuse.” This workshop will provide a broad overview of potential legal issues encountered by most growing businesses, and will present strategies for avoiding pitfalls and remaining in sound legal compliance. Areas of focus will include legal issues affecting business organizational affairs, operations, employment, financing, and the swirl of intangibles that if not at least generally understood, can become very disruptive and potentially costly.
Stressing the importance of this course, Dr. Cynthia Johnson, SBDC Center Director, shared, “A legal review is essential to ensuring the viability of a company. Our mission is to help businesses grow, and what you don’t know can hurt you. This workshop can help busy entrepreneurs identify challenges that have the potential to slow their growth or even close their doors.”
This workshop will be held on April 8, 2014, from 8:30am to 10:30am, at the Pinellas County Economic Development (PCED) offices located at the ICOT Center in Clearwater. Register to attend at http://pinellas.obsres.com/economic/Info.aspx?DayPlanner=4/8/2014, or by calling 727-453-7200.
Attendees of the workshop will receive a free “Legal Checkup” checklist to help them better assess the legal health of their own business.
