VSA Florida and Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS), Exceptional Student Education (ESE) present “Celebration!” 2014 A showcase performance from the My Art My Way artist in residence program
by HCPS ESE students.
Tampa, FL, (March 2014) –VSA Florida and Hillsborough County Public Schools, Exceptional Student Education are partnering to present a final student showcase from inclusive teaching artist residencies in drama, music, and movement. Students from Coleman Middle School, Mendez Exceptional Center, Gaither High School, Simmons Exceptional Center and Summerfield Elementary will perform at 10AM on April 9th at the TECO Energy Foundation Theater, Patel Conservatory, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa, Florida 33602.
There will also be a Guest Performance by Matt Weihmuller, a jazz saxophonist, who graduated from Florida State with an undergraduate degree and a masters in music. He is currently an instructor at the Patel Conservatory and performs regularly throughout the state as a soloist and with various jazz bands.
VSA Florida’s signature Artist in Residency Program, give students in Exceptional Student Education programs a chance to participate in 8 one-hour art sessions, encouraging them to develop creatively. The teaching artist visits the classroom hands-on with the participants. VSA Florida, (VSAFL) provides artist residencies in visual art, music,
drama and movement for ESE and inclusive classrooms.
In 2012-13, the VSAFL residency program served 2000 youth in 62 Florida counties.
