|Pirates Charities to Partner with Four Organizations to Salute Veterans
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates Charities will host several Salute to Veterans events at MckechnieField today (March 24) and tomorrow (March 25) Field in partnership with thePatterson Foundation’s “Legacy of Valor” initiative. The Pirates and Pirates Charities will host atotal of 30 local veteran members and their families from the Team Red, Whiteand Blue organization and the Wounded Warrior Project.
The events include a night at McKechnie onMonday, March 24 as Pirates right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton will host thegroup for an evening of fun at the park.
The Legacyof Valor events** will include:
· Monday,March 24 (6 to 9 p.m.)– Live batting practice for veterans,hosted by pitcher Charlie Morton, with Pirates Players, Coaches andBroadcasters.
o The Pirates and the PattersonFoundation will host a family BBQ picnic after batting practice.
· Tuesday,March 25 (10:45 a.m. to end of game)– The Pirates will host the TorontoBlue Jays at 1:05 p.m. at McKechnie Field.
o The group will begin the day with apregame picnic on the Boardwalk and a special on-field recognition ceremony andcheck presentation to Team Red, White and Blue and the Wounded Warriors Project.
The mission of Team Red, White and Blue is to enrich the livesof American’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physicaland social activity. The WoundedWarrior’s mission includes opportunities to honor and empower warriors who werewounded serving in the Armed Forces. Eachgroup will receive a donation from Pirates Charities in an on-field checkpresentation ceremony before the game on Tuesday, March 25.
On Tuesday at McKechnie, the first 2,500fans in attendance will receive a Pirates camouflage cap as they enter the parkand all fans are invited to stay after the game for a postgame concert bycountry music star Craig Campbell. Ticketsstart at $14 and tickets purchased in advance are discounted $2 off day-of-gamepricing. There is no additional cost for the Campbell concert. Purchasing aticket to the Pirates game is the only way to gain admission to the concert.
Thetwo-day event is made possible through a partnership with the PattersonFoundation, an organization with a core goal of focusing on creating “NewRealities,” or realities that emerge whenorganizations engage in innovative collaboration. The foundation believes in sharing the valueof what they learn by working with others to achieve a synergy that benefitsall involved and the wider community.
Legacy of Valor is a campaign that rallies ourcommunity to honor veterans, inspire patriotism and pass freedom on to others. A mosaic of community-driven partnerships willeducate and focus the community to use time, talent and treasure to recognizethe service and sacrifice of all veterans and their families.
