Hillsborough County’s E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin and Lake Park in Lutz were recently named beneficiaries of “Heart Your Park,” a public-private partnership that matches Hillsborough County residents’ donations with corporate support from Macy*s Department Stores during March. The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and selected Macy*s locations jointly identified the local parks and green spaces that would receive special funds from this project, in addition to ongoing support for County Parks, Recreation and Conservation programs.
E.G. Simmons Park is popular with nature enthusiasts and features a designated bird and wildlife sanctuary, mangrove swamp, picnic areas, campground and a public beach. Lake Park appeals to sportsman and offers hiking trails, an archery range, BMX bicycle track, equestrian arenas and a radio-controlled car track.
Donations can be used to make improvements, maintain park amenities, or support infrastructure and programming. Macy*s will provide a matching contribution for every $1 donated by customers, up to $250,000. Residents can contribute when visiting Macy’s store locations and asking to donate to “Heart Your Park.” No purchase is necessary to participate. The effort is part of a larger Macy*s program that aims to raise awareness and support for the role local parks play in communities across the country.
The National Recreation and Park Association is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing park, recreation and conservation efforts that enhance quality of life for all people.
