TAMPA, Fla.—Port Tampa Bay is pleased to acknowledge The Mosaic Company’s March 17 purchase CF Industries’ phosphate properties—a $1.4 billion deal including the phosphate company’s warehouse and shipping facility for bulk phosphate product at Port Tampa Bay.
In addition to the port facilities, Mosaic’s acquisition includes CF’s 25,000 South Pasture phosphate mine and beneficiation plant in Hardee County, as well as its Plant City phosphate manufacturing facility. Mosaic is the world’s largest producer of phosphate/fertilizer products and is a long-time user of the Port Tampa Bay.
“Mosaic is one of our most significant long-term partners at Port Tampa Bay, and we heartily congratulate them on this strategic benchmark to purchase CF Industries’ properties and facilities,” Paul Anderson, port president and CEO, said. “Phosphate is one of our historic cargoes, and it continues to drive economic development, jobs and Tampa’s key role in feeding the world.”
“We are thrilled to welcome CF’s Florida phosphate employees to Mosaic,” said Gary N. “Bo” Davis, Mosaic Senior Vice President – Phosphate Operations. “This addition will strengthen our operations and our deep commitments to the Tampa Bay and Central Florida communities where our employees live and work.”
Port Tampa Bay has long been a port for the export of Florida phosphates and other fertilizer products to other parts of the world. The port’s recent economic impact study shows that more than 43,000 jobs are related to phosphatic/fertilizer activities at the Port of Tampa, generating $2.3 billion in personal income; that study, completed by Martin Associates, also shows the industry’s impact in Tampa spurs some $10.6 billion in annual local/regional economic impact.
