March 18, 2014 / Sarasota, Fla. — Sarasota businessman and Church of the Redeemer parishioner Michael Forbes was recently named Member of the Year by the Manasota Chapter of the C12 Group, a national network of Christian business owners and executives committed to applying biblical principles to their plans and operations. Forbes, who joined C12 in 2008, has built several businesses over the years, including Transamerica Lubricants (El Paso, Tex.), and FARO Bearings and Paneolio in Sarasota.
Each C12 chapter is made up of 12 CEOs and business owners, and each year the organization selects a Member of the Year. “I am very honored and encouraged that the Lord has given me the tools to gain the trust and recognition of some of Sarasota’s finest Christian businessmen,” says Forbes.
Forbes became a Christian in 2006 and was baptized that same year at Redeemer. “C12 is one of the three ‘legs’ that support my faith and business,” says Forbes. “The Church of the Redeemer and my wife, Cinzia, are the other two legs.”
“Redeemer is both liturgical and evangelical at the same time,” says Forbes. “This allows us to worship in the ‘high church’ form, but to also explore Christ in a deeply personal level. Sunday service is always a ‘centering moment’ to remind me that God is truly the owner of all and is in charge of my business.”
C12, Forbes says, is an excellent example of how businesses exercising biblical principles can find success. “As an entrepreneur and small business owner, I had always been looking for a peer or advisory group, like a board of directors, that I could bounce ideas off of and get sound business advice. With C12, I found exactly what I was looking for.”
“Through the C12 group, I have learned that our Christian life and business life cannot be separated,” says Forbes. “They are one and the same. When we are in contact with stakeholders, suppliers, employees and customers, we have a unique chance to use this platform to shine God’s love throughout the process.”
In addition to running his businesses, Forbes leads the Men of Redeemer group and has served on Redeemer’s Evangelism Committee. He is currently responsible for recruiting ushers for holiday services and volunteers with Caritas, which provides emergency assistance to those in need. Originally from Portland, Ore., Forbes moved to Sarasota in 1997. He and his wife, Cinzia, have a daughter, Carroll, 18, and a son, Alessandro, 13.
