TAMPA, Fla. (March 11, 2014) – The Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF), scheduled for March 19-23, will honor Rising Star Award recipients, including: RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad, House of Last Things), Anna Anissimova (Father of Invention, The Trials of Cate McCall, There’s Always Woodstock) and Martha MacIsaac (Greek, Superbad, 1600 Penn).
“This year we chose to honor three young actors who all bring a special charm and charisma to the profession,” says Joe Restaino, program director for GIFF. “Anna Anissimova is blossoming before our eyes, Martha MacIsaac has continued to shine from when she came on the scene in “Superbad” and RJ Mitte has been recognized for his endearing performance in “Breaking Bad.” We can’t be more proud that each Rising Star is representing a film at our festival that shows the depth and strength of each as they mature as young actors.”
Well-known for his role as Walter “Flynn” White, Jr. on the AMC series “Breaking Bad,” Mitte debuts in his first feature film, “House of Last Things” which has its North American premiere at GIFF.
“I’m very honored to be mentioned as a Rising Star alongside Anna and Martha,” says Mitte. “I’m looking forward to being in Tampa and sharing our love of film with a group of amazing filmmakers.”
Anissimova will star in “There’s Always Woodstock,” which has its world premiere as the opening night film for GIFF. Recognized for her acting talent, MacIsaac makes her debut as an executive producer as well as co-stars for the short film, “Seasick Sailor.”
Joining Mitte, Anissimova and MacIsaac at the Festival are various other filmmakers and talent, including:
- Andre Holland (1600 Penn, forthcoming Cinemax series, “The Knick”)
- Blake Berris (Days of Our Lives, Meth Head, House of Last Things, GIFF 2013 Rising Star Award recipient)
- C.S. Lee (Dexter)
- Hrach Titizian (Homeland, The Men Who Stare at Goats)
- Jason Ritter (Parenthood, There’s Always Woodstock, Freddy vs. Jason)
- Sam Childers aka “The Machine Gun Preacher”
- Ryan O’Nan (The Frozen Ground, The Iceman, GIFF Rising Star Award Recipient 2012)
“It’s exciting to see all of the new filmmakers and talent who value and love the GIFF experience,” says Monica Varner, executive director of GIFF. “Plus, being in the Sunshine State doesn’t hurt in attracting some of the best in the country.”
