|Several island and off-island businesses will be selling Shamrocks for the entire month of March to help raise money for two local animal rescue groups. Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue, Inc., and Forget Me Not Animal Rescue are two of the rescues responsible for pulling dogs from the Manatee County Animal Services Shelter. According to Lisa Williams, of Moonracer Rescue, “Every week, there are several dogs and cats placed on the kill list slated to be euthanized for a variety of reasons including treatable skin conditions, heartworm, temperament issues or lack of space at the shelter”. If not for the efforts of rescues, many of these animals would not be alive. Stephanie Kelly, with Forget Me Not states, “We believe these animals should not be killed due to these reasons so, we pull them from the shelter, rehabilitate them, take care of their medical needs and network to find them forever homes”.
Several businesses want to help with the efforts by offering paper shamrocks that customers can purchase, write their name on and display on the walls and windows of the business. The recent Valentine’s Day campaign, called “Hearts for Homeless Pets” raised $571.00 in just two weeks. The rescues are hoping to double that amount with the shamrock campaign to help them pay for medical expenses, boarding, food and materials and neutering and spaying. Shamrocks can be purchased at the following businesses through March 30th:
Island Fitness, Paradise Café, Mail and More, Island Coffee Haus, The Paw Spa, Island Animal Clinic, Anna Maria Olive Oil Outpost, Perks for Pets and the UPS Store in NW Bradenton. If you are a business who would like to participate or if you would like to donate to the rescue please call 941-713-3105.
