Orientation takes place March 8; eight-week course begins March 15
TAMPA, Fla. (March 04, 2014) – For the fourth consecutive year, Road Runners Club of America certified coach Lynn Gray will work with Moffitt Cancer Center to host an eight-week training clinic that will help PNC Bank Miles for Moffitt participants prepare for the May 10 race.
Gray owns the Take… the First Step running studio and teaches clients the best way to condition the body for a race, regardless of skill level.
The eight-week training clinic will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays starting March 15 and running through May 3 at Lake Park, 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Lutz. There is an orientation for participants at 7:30 a.m. March 8 at Gray’s training studio, 15100 Hutchison Road, Suite 121. Topics include learning the basics, how to prevent injuries, managing a walk-to-run ratio, and effective breathing and heart rate. The clinic costs $100 and includes the $35 Miles for Moffitt registration fee.
For Gray, running is a way to achieve a healthy lifestyle. “My clinic focuses on helping people build strength while avoiding injuries no matter what their running background. We have had beginners, joggers, experienced runners and even cancer survivors take part to learn how to commit to their health and promote their own wellness,” Gray said.
The 9th annual Miles for Moffitt event is Saturday, May 10, at the University of South Florida. Since 2006, Miles for Moffitt has raised nearly $1.5 million and funded 27 researchers and their cancer research programs at Moffitt Cancer Center. All of the money raised through registration and donations funds finding a cure for cancer right here in the Tampa Bay area. Last year’s race hosted 6,000 people who raised $346,000.
