TAMPA, FL (February 27, 2014) Stantec is a strategic community partner with the Tamp Bay Lightning’s Foundation and has once again partnered with the Lightning to sponsor the “What Makes a Hero” Essay Contest. The contest ends on Sunday, March 9th at midnight.
Two students will be selected to receive $5,000 scholarships to continue their education and will be recognized at a Lightning home game. Currently enrolled Florida high school seniors or college freshman or sophomores may enter the contest simply by submitting an essay answering questions about their definition of a community hero and his or her key attributes. Elizabeth Frazier, Executive Director for Lightning Foundation and Vice President of Philanthropy & Community Initiatives says they are pleased to partner with Stantec for a second year to bring the “What Makes a Hero Essay Contest” to students. “It allows us to expand our Lightning Community Hero program with younger generations as well as gives them an opportunity to hone their writing skills and creativity for future success.”
Kim Austin, Stantec’s director of marketing, thinks the scholarships are part of a broader program of support for education across the state. “It’s important that Stantec contributes to our local communities in a substantial and meaningful way. These scholarships will hopefully help shape the lives of two young adults and their families. Our commitment to the next generation remains a core focus of our community engagement program and we are proud to partner with the Lightning on this education initiative. ”
