Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough Counties, Florida – (February 25, 2014) Medical Center of Trinity announces it has partnered with Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. to offer therapy dog visits to patients.
The program is currently being piloted in the fourth floor nursing units. The dogs and their handlers are currently visiting patients two days a week with a goal to extend their visits to three days per week.
The local chapter currently offers seven certified therapy dogs and their handlers. According to Marlene Jaime, patient experience coordinator, “There are many physical and emotional benefits of pet therapy; for example: stress relief, alleviating depression, lowering blood pressure, giving a feeling of acceptance, hopefulness, comfort, and increasing overall mood. That is the goal for these visits along with creating smiles and bringing happiness to our patients, their families and our staff.”
