(St. Petersburg, FL) Beach Drive is lined with restaurants, retail, galleries and museums. This popular destination continues to draw tourists and locals alike.
The popularity of this destination often causes on-street parking to be utilized to maximum capacity. In an effort to provide a convenient parking alternative, the Looper has partnered with the City of St. Petersburg to designate the Dolphin parking lot along the Pier approach as Beach Drive overflow parking. Motorists may park in this lot as an alternative to metered parking on Beach Drive. By using this lot and the Looper, visitors will be able to pay a $3 flat fee ($5 during special events) and enjoy the convenience of the trolley during regular service hours with a service frequency of every seven to ten minutes.
To enhance the connection to Beach Drive, St. Petersburg’s trolley the downtown Looper is extending its Free Fare Zone. Passengers ride FREE when they get-on and get-off anywhere in the Free Fare Zone (outside of the zone still just 50 cents). Stops in the zone are the Dolphin trolley station, the Pelican trolley station (both along the approach to The Pier), the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, The Birchwood/Moon Under Water, Museum of Fine Arts/Parkshore Grill, Sundial/Muvico and the Chamber Visitor Center. Additional private contributions from businesses sponsoring stops along the free fare zone will cover the foregone passenger fare revenue. The St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce also participated in creating this service enhancement.
This new service goes into effect on Friday February 28th.
