Premier cancer care delivery system to better serve Central Florida
TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2014) — Watson Clinic LLP, one of the largest multispecialty medical clinics in the Southeast, is the newest member of the Moffitt Oncology Network. Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, collaborates with respected academic centers, hospital systems and physician groups in the network to enhance the quality of cancer care delivered nationwide. The Moffitt Oncology Network extends Moffitt’s knowledge and expertise to outside providers to offer the best personalized cancer care.
With more than 220 board-certified physicians practicing 40 specialties in 20 locations, Watson Clinic has the distinction of being the only member of the Moffitt Oncology Network in Polk County. This is the latest development in a collaboration that has lasted for more than 10 years, with Watson Clinic previously participating in Moffitt’s former statewide affiliate program aimed to improve patient care in Florida.
In this new network collaboration, Moffitt and Watson Clinic will work jointly to develop a comprehensive cancer program, expanding the superior personalized approach to patient care and cutting-edge clinical research efforts of both organizations.
The foundation of this advanced collaboration is a clinical care model based on Moffitt Clinical Pathways, or guidelines that represent the highest standard of patient care. Watson Clinic will have access to Moffitt’s evidence-based, comprehensive pathways, which document standardized best practices and a consistent approach to personalizing cancer care, as well as its quality management strategies designed to improve physician decision-making. Moffitt leverages quality measures established by the American Society of Clinical Oncology to provide standard-of-care metrics for network partners. Moffitt, in coordination with its partners, is committed to changing the face of how cancer care is provided with patients, physicians, insurance companies, employers and more with the creation and implementation of our pathways.
Watson Clinic will also have access to Moffitt’s multidisciplinary tumor boards, clinical trials research, best practices consultation and mentorship program.
“Watson Clinic continues to be immensely proud of our close association with Moffitt Cancer Center,” said Louis S. Saco, M.D., chairman and CEO of Watson Clinic. “Our collaborative efforts have resulted in a caliber of cancer care that remains unsurpassed in Polk County.”
Watson Clinic’s membership in the Moffitt Oncology Network will enable physicians to share knowledge and expertise, and increase the possibilities for meaningful discoveries in cancer treatment and prevention. The Moffitt Oncology Network also includes Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa.; Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville, Ky.; Lynn Cancer Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital; Space Coast Cancer Center; and Florida Cancer Affiliates in New Port Richey and Ocala.
“Moffitt and Watson Clinic have a very strong long-standing relationship. Having Watson as the latest member of the Moffitt Oncology Network demonstrates the commitment to quality, collaboration and patient-centered care for both organizations,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt. “Moffitt Cancer Center is committed to delivering high-quality, coordinated cancer care and innovative translational research — the key to one day finding a cure. Partnering with Watson Clinic will allow us to better serve the needs of patients in Central Florida and beyond.”
