TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2014) – In the words of Rocky Balboa, “Yo Adrienne,” was on the mind of Visit Tampa Bay President & CEO Santiago Corrada as he headed to New York City to represent Hillsborough County’s tourism organization. Why was he there? Well it wasn’t for a fight, but for a victory round as the organization received top honors with a Platinum Award at the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International’s (HSMAI) annual Adrian Awards Gala.
The organization received the Platinum Award for Digital Marketing, in conjunction with its agency partner BarkleyREI, for the Social Media Command Center that was launched for the Republican National Convention, which was held in Tampa in August 2012. Leaders of the effort, Vice President of Marketing Doug McClain and Online Relations Manager Kat Lewis, joined Corrada in New York to accept the award along with Shane Pryal from BarkelyREI.
“We are getting comfortable in talking about awards,” said Corrada. He continued, “We have been talking about the IIFA Awards, also known as the Bollywood Oscars, and how fortunate our community is to be hosting the celebrations in April. We are equally as fortunate to be here in New York City accepting an award that is known as the ‘Oscars of Tourism & Hospitality.’ We also want to share this award with all of our partners that played a role in supporting our Social Media Command Center during the RNC.”
HSMAI established the awards to honor those who have created exceptional advertising, digital marketing and public relations campaigns in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries. This year’s contest attracted more than 1,200 entries from around the world with entries judged by top executives from all sectors of the industry.
