(SARASOTA, Fla., February 25, 2014) Manasota SCORE presented the 2014 Client of the Year Award to Jennifer and Chris Mannering, owners of Bounce Down Under (www.bouncedownunder.com), at their 50th anniversary awards luncheon held on February 24 at Michael’s on East in Sarasota.
The keynote speaker was SCORE’s Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Bridget Weston Pollack. She shared information on SCORE anniversary milestones, including over 10 million clients served in the organization’s 50 years of providing mentoring and education for small business clients. SCORE now has over 320 chapters and 11,000 volunteers (www.score.org).
Pollack complimented the chapter on the “Been There, Done That!” business education podcast series created and hosted by Dennis Zink, Vice Chair, with technical support from mentor Fred Dunayer (available through iTunes and www.manasota.score.org). She encouraged the chapter to keep working on developing tools that will reach out to all entrepreneurs, including the 29% who are millenials.
The Client of the Year Award was presented by Bounce Down Under’s SCORE mentors,Tom Latimer and Bob Melberth. The Mannerings spent 2½ years working with the mentors, doing research and developing a comprehensive business plan before they opened the business. Their work helped them secure a small business loan and create a business that saw its first profits within a few months of opening.
Greg Hoffman was presented with a Platinum Leadership Award, the highest award a chapter can give to a volunteer. It recognized his numerous contributions and achievements while he was the chapter’s chair for several years, including the formation of the Manasota SCORE Advisory Board.
SCORE mentor King Barnard was recognized for five years of service. Jerry Chautin was given a 20-year service award from the local chapter; he had previously received one from SCORE’s Atlanta chapter.
The Manasota SCORE Stars was established in 2013 to recognize volunteers who provided significant mentoring, support of the workshop program, and/or notable contributions to the chapter’s services. This year, Stars were awarded to John Bonar, Bob Bertelsbeck, Fred Dunayer, Bob Melberth and Dennis Zink. Several existing Stars were recognized for their contributions last year – Doug Barber, Bill Elias, Tom Latimer and Jon Stuart.
