Valentine’s Day was a little sweeter for the animals of Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue and Forget Me Not Animal Rescue. Six local businesses raised a total of $571.00 within two weeks by selling paper hearts to their customers. The hearts were purchased for $1.00 or more and then displayed on the walls and windows of the businesses. Both Lisa Williams of Moonracer and Stephanie Kelly of Forget Me Not extend their deepest gratitude to the shop owners and the public for their support. Williams said, “This money will go to help with medical expenses, specifically helping with the surgery to save the eye of one dog who was recently rescued from Manatee County Animal Shelter. Without donations from these generous people, this dog would have lost its eye.” Kelly will be using her sum to pay for boarding of animals who were once on the list to be euthanized but are now awaiting fostering or adoption.
The shops who participated include: Island Fitness, Paradise Café and Catering, Anna Maria Olive Oil Outpost, Island Coffee Haus, Mail and More and Perks for Pets in Bradenton. Signs Now of Bradenton printed the hearts at no cost and Jocelyn Greene, with Green Girl Designs, designed the hearts at no charge. The organizer of the fundraiser plans to continue the efforts by having St. Patrick’s Day Shamrocks available for purchase. The title of that campaign will be, “Help a Homeless Pet Get Lucky”. All of the shops listed here plan to sell the shamrocks. If you would like to purchase a shamrock please visit one of the participating shops. If you are a business and would like to sell the shamrocks please call 941-713-3105. You may also call that number if you are interested in donating to these rescues or adopting a forever friend.
Thank you to everyone who participated to help the homeless pets of Manatee County.
