Get a behind-the-scenes view on March 6 during the Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop
Tampa, Fla. – Discover the unique stories behind some of Ybor City’s most iconic historic buildings at the Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop presented by the Ybor City Museum Society. The third annual event will be held on Thursday, March 6, from 5-10 p.m. in Ybor City.
Buildings Alive! includes behind-the-scenes tours of eight historic locations in Ybor City: Carne Chophouse, The Cuban Club, Design Styles Architecture, Don Vicente de Ybor Historic Inn, Florida Business Interiors, J.C. Newman Cigar Company, TMD Windows & Doors and USAmeriBank.
“While 954 Ybor City buildings are deemed historically significant, many of the buildings are privately owned with limited public access,” said Chantal Hevia, Ybor City Museum Society president and CEO. “This tour is a rare opportunity to see inside these beautiful structures and learn how they’ve been preserved, rehabilitated, or restored and adapted to meet modern needs.”
Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop attendees start at one of two registration points: Stantec, located at 2205 N. 20th St., with free parking for 120 cars, or Centro Ybor, located at 1536 E. 7th Ave., with parking available nearby in the Centro Ybor parking garage for a minimal fee.
Attendees ride the Jolley Trolley or stroll through the historic district to reach the hop stops between from 5-9 p.m. Each participating location will provide a tour of the building and refreshments. Participate in the scavenger hunt throughout the hop for a chance to win prizes.
After hopping through Ybor City, enjoy live entertainment by Hot Sun, drinks and dessert at the Buildings Alive! after party in the Ybor City Museum State Park Garden from 8-10 p.m. The after party also includes free admission to the Ybor City Museum State Park and its current exhibits, “Béisbol: Tampa’s Love of the Game” and “The Jewish Roots of Ybor.”
Admission price is $35 until Feb. 28 when it increases to $45. Discounted admission is available for Ybor City Museum Society members. To register, visit www.ybormuseum.org/buildingsalive or call (813) 247-1434.
