|A celebration was held Thursday, Feb. 13th at Renaissance On 9th when the Manatee County YMCA kicked off it’s annual scholarship campaign with the Change The Odds Breakfast.
Joey Brannon, Manatee County Y Board of Directors Chair opened the event with a warm welcome and overview of how the annual fundraising campaign is allowing all to be served regardless of their ability to pay for Y programs and services.
Monty Hershberger gave the invocation, then a short video was shown which showcased the variety of programs available at the Y. But the programs were only a part of the program, the purpose of the day was to celebrate individuals and families whose lives have been positively changed by their involvement with the YMCA.
Sean Allison, President and CEO of the Manatee County Y, spoke on the mission of the YMCA, “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all”, and about the Y’s focus – Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Sean then introduced several Y members to the stage who shared their stories: Vanessa Galvez – Y READS! student, Shawn Gettinger – Bradenton Branch member, Ray Benbow – Manatee Y Tech HS student, Penny Johanesen – Lakewood Ranch member and Barbara Holden – Parrish Branch member.
Leslie Horton-Gladfelter, Campaign Chair, closed the program with a call to action to individuals and businesses in our community. She shared that we are at 35% of the Y’s annual goal of $474,000 to date and that 100% of it’s Board of Directors have pledged a gift.
The event concluded with a prayer and blessing given by Kyle Henson, the Lakewood Ranch Branch Campaign Chair. The financial help you give to the Y will allow the Y to continue serving all in Manatee County.
Let the Manatee County Y be your charity of choice.
