The Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) Foundation recently received a $26,500 gift to fund the Thomas A. Plein (TAP) Memorial Scholarship endowment. This donation is in addition to previous annual gifts made beginning in 2011. To date, the TAP Foundation has provided over $73,000 in student scholarship support at PHSC.
Thomas A. Plein, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, established the Thomas A. Plein Foundation in the 1980s to advance his family’s philanthropic interests. The family owned 7-Up bottling plants in Oshkosh and other Midwest cities. Grateful for their business success, the Pleins believed in giving back to their community. Thomas believed that his foundation would support individuals and provide educational opportunities to those who demonstrated financial need. Mr. Plein’s nephew, Steve Plein of New Port Richey, sits on the TAP Foundation Board and was instrumental in facilitating the gift to support students of Pasco-Hernando State College. His son, Daniel Plein, attended the check presentation on Steve’s behalf.
