St. Petersburg, Fla. – Local 6th grader, Jake Schultz, invites all runners, running enthusiasts, and families to run in his 2nd Annual Race for the Cupcake 5k on March 22, 2014, 8:00 a.m., in Pass-a-grille Beach. Jake created and directs this race as a way to make a difference in his community. All proceeds will go to RiseUp! St. Pete. Jake chose this organization because of their mission to unite people cross-culturally and work together on areas of need that will impact our community for the good.
Runners from the Tampa Bay area, and 11 states across the U.S., participated in a sold out race last season on the “sugary” sands of Pass-a-Grille, St. Pete Beach! Participants this year will again receive the famous t-shirt and a cupcake at the finish. New this year, Jake will be giving away raffle prizes and additional age group awards have been added to the line up. Unique cupcake awards will be given to the top male/female, top Master male/female, and three deep age group awards.
The course, adjacent to Hurley Park on 16th AV and Gulf Way, is a 3.1 mile out and back course on the hard-packed area of sand near the water’s edge. Bibs and t-shirts will be available for pick up on Friday, March 21 from 5:00pm-6:30pm at Fit2Run, St. Pete, 256 2nd Ave N, and on race morning 6:00am-7:45am in Hurley Park. Please pick up your packet as early as possible to avoid missing the start of the race. Late registrations are not guaranteed a t-shirt, but we will do our best to accommodate sizes with what we have left.
Registration is now open online at www.raceforthecupcake.com or on Active.com. Early bird entry fee is $20, only until Valentine’s Day. “Like” the Race for the Cupcake Facebook page to stay up-to-date with information, sign up parties, and special announcements.
