St. Petersburg, Fla. – The Morean Arts Center invites aspiring bakers to compete in a city-wide search for St. Petersburg’s BEST CUPCAKE as part of the Summer Camp kick-off weekend. The contest will be hosted at the Morean Arts Center Galleries on Central Avenue, Saturday March 15 from 12-3pm. A $10 entry fee allows each participant to enter one submission, children ages 7-15 are invited to compete.
The Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest, hosted every year in August at the Morean Arts Center, has become one of St. Petersburg’s sweetest events with over 200 participants over the past three years. Each year, more young adults and children choose to enter the contest in hopes of making a name for themselves, so much so that a Kids ONLY event was the next logical step.
Cupcakes will be judged on icing/frosting, flavor/texture and presentation/creativity for a total of 50 points, which allows plenty of room for edible creativity. Judges for the contest will consist of past winners from the Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest, local foodies and Jake Schultz, creator of the Race for the Cupcake 5K. A minimum of 6 delicious cupcakes are required for entry so that the judges can taste each submission.
First and Second Place winners will be announced in each catergory, 7-10 year olds and 11-15 year olds. The winners will receive a beautiful handmade clay cupcake trophy made by artists at the Train Station Center for Clay. The winning cupcakes will enjoy fame and fortune as a celebrity on the Morean website, Facebook page and city-wide media. Awards announced at 3pm.
The People’s Choice award will be voted on by the attending audience. Participants in the contest are encouraged to bring sufficient quantities for the public to taste. Votes will be tallied and the winner of the People’s Choice Award announced at 3pm. FREE admission for the public. $1 per vote collected to help support the Morean Arts Center’s mission of Connecting People with Art.
Registration will be capped, so be sure and send in entry forms as soon as possible. Multiple submissions are allowed, but each flavor entered needs to be accompanied by a separate registration form and entry fee.
The Morean Arts Center will provide a Summer Camp registration table available during the event for parents who are interested in more information on the Art, Clay, Teen and Adult camps starting June 9. Registration will also be open for the 2nd Annual Race for the Cupcake 5K which occurs the following Saturday, March 22 in Pass-a-Grille Beach, all proceeds benefitting Rise Up! St. Pete.
