February 4, 2014 – (Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida) – Shaun P. Merriman, President and CEO of Gateway Bank, is proud to announce that Gateway employees (41 in total) contributed a total of $27,700 in monetary donations to charitable organizations within the Sarasota/Bradenton community in 2013. These donations do not reflect contributions made by Gateway at the corporate level. Employee donations primarily consisted of direct contributions to United Way, funds raised through participation in walkathons, blue jean Fridays, and collection site gatherings in each of Gateway’s three branch locations.
An avid United Way supporter in both Sarasota and Manatee counties, Gateway Bank’s employee annual pledges totaled $15,163 for 2013. This was a 14% increase over 2012 contributions. Each year Merriman challenges employees to increase contributions by 10 – 15%, as Gateway is a designated Pacesetter organization.
Another way Gateway employees raise money for the community is through participation in various fundraisers such as the American Heart Association’s “Heart Walk,” and American Diabetes Association’s “Tour de Cure.” Last year, $10,836 in cash was raised through events such as these, which complement Gateway’s corporate wellness program.
Additional charitable contributions (both monetary and in-kind) were raised by employee participation in “Blue Jean Fridays,” and collection boxes placed throughout the branches.
“At Gateway, we view our community involvement as an extension of community banking,” said Merriman. He continued, “Our employees embrace the fact that we all have a responsibility to give back to our community, and in doing so, it brings out the best in us, inspires hope in each other, and empowers us to believe in a better future.”
