California Partners Transform Central Perks Café into Downtown Community Center;
Food Made with Love, Served with Heart
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Since February 2012, Central Perks Café at 695 Central Avenue in downtown St. Petersburg has become a busy and beloved café in the bustling arts district with its daily-fresh muffins and cookies, and vast lunch and breakfast menus with over 50 items including specialty wraps, salads, sandwiches and coffees. On Monday, February 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Central Perks will thank its customers with an anniversary open house featuring entertainment and samples of its many selections. It will unveil an interior mural painted by famed Sebastian Coolidge. His works are proudly displayed throughout the city on various buildings and walls.
California business partners Melanie Freeman and Robin Hinaman bought the café in February 2012 when it served little more than coffee and soup. Together the pair have transformed the business into a Central Avenue Arts District hot-spot employing three other people and serving over 300 customers each week, including artists and their patrons, and local business community customers-turned-friends in many fields including insurance, healthcare, legal, publishing, travel and real estate. For customer convenience, Central Perks features online ordering at its website www.centralperkscafe.com .
Said Freeman, “We were seeking a Florida opportunity, and looked up and down the Atlantic coast, and throughout Tampa Bay. We found this location in St. Pete and fell in love with it, and with the people. We consider that we’re feeding our friends every day.”
Adds Hinaman, who does much of the menu programming and runs the kitchen, “This community has been more than welcoming—our customers have become part of our lives.”
Freeman’s frequent customer JS Hamilton, a local author and publisher with a nearby office, commented, “These girls brought incredible heart and spirit to Central Avenue and have created a community center where people love to be; they make me feel like I work in the center of the film Fried Green Tomatoes.”
In addition to menu samples of specialty coffees, muffins, soup, and new menu features, they will be providing music from MikeL Soulhop a local music celebrity. Derek Donnelly will be creating a painting live and there are several celebrities on the RSVP list to be making an appearance.
Central Perks Café is located at 695 Central Avenue in the Corporate Center Building, and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
