TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 23, 2014 – Fifth generation winemaker Mireia Torres Maczassek and her wines from the Jean Leon Winery will be featured at the eighth annual Andrea’s Sip for Life on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City.
In a twist, the event this year features a seated six-course wine dinner focusing on a single, family-owned winery instead of a tasting. Jean Leon is a division of Torres Winery, located in the heart of Spain’s Penedès Catalan region.
“We had an opportunity to invite this very special guest whose family has been friends with ours for three generations,” said Richard Gonzmart, a fourth generation owner and operator of the Columbia Restaurant Group. “Plus, a dinner allows us to better communicate the need for greater research on Adolescent and Young Adult sarcoma.
100 percent of every dollar raised will benefit the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) program for sarcoma research at Moffitt Cancer Center.
The dinner is $100 per person and reservations are limited. Call 813-248-4961 or go online at www.columbiarestaurant.com. There also will be an opportunity to purchase the wines to take home.
Andrea’s Sip for Life was created by Richard Gonzmart, as a way to combine his love of wine with his long-time desire to find a cure for cancer. He was especially touched by the story of Andrea Dicks Hartley, a young mother and Moffitt patient who lost her battle to sarcoma cancer in August 2006 at the age of 30. She left behind her then 2 1/2-year-old daughter. This event was created and named in Andrea’s honor.
