Gov. Rick Scott recently announced the appointment of John Dougherty to the District Board of Trustees for Pasco-Hernando State College. Scott also reappointed Morris Porton, who has served on the board since November 2011.
“Both trustees are dedicated to the accessibility and quality of higher education in the community,” said Katherine M. Johnson, PHSC president. “We are very pleased by the appointment of John Dougherty and the reappointment of Morris Porton to the Board, especially during this exciting time in the college’s history.”
Dougherty, 55, of Spring Hill, has 25 years of experience as a CPA and financial planner. He is managing member of Dougherty & Associates, LLC, an investment advisory firm. He was elected to the PHCC Foundation Board of Directors in June 1997 and served a two-year term as chair from 2008 to 2010. Also, he is a past president of the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce. Dougherty received his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University and his master’s degree from New York University. His appointment as a trustee began December 17, 2013 and runs through May 31, 2015.
Porton, 67, of Spring Hill, is a senior vice president at Florida Traditions Bank with 44 years of banking experience. He has served on the board of directors for the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce since 1995, as a member of the PHCC Foundation Board of Directors from 2009 to 2011, and has participated extensively in various community services. Porton earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a banking degree from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He also is a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy and served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1965 to 1966. His reappointment began December 17, 2013 and will end May 31, 2017.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
