The Centre Club’s Executive Women’s Council was honored by the club members for the Best Event for 2013 at the annual Candy Cane Ball hosted by the Board of Governors. The Best Event went to the Breakfast of Champions® honoring Olympic Gold Medallist Tianna Madison Bartoletta.
Tianna lives in Lutz with her husband John Bartoletta. Tianna is a Track and Field athlete who has won numerous events in the long jump, 100 and 200 meter individual events, and was the lead off runner for the Olympic U.S. Women’s 100X400 relay team who broke a 28 year record in winning the Gold Medal.
“The event with Tianna was special. She shared her story of competition and personal growth by overcoming obstacles, dealing with adversity and learning the value of goal setting. We are so proud to have Tianna as a fellow resident and champion for young girls and women. Through her Club 360 organization she is establishing a forum for them to learn to live with honesty and integrity,” said Sherri Ferguson, creator of the Breakfast of Champions® program.
The Breakfast of Champions® is a speaking series honoring local residents who share their journey to success as business owners, educators, health care professionals, or public servants including the military. The event introduced themes to recognize Inventors and Innovators in 2012, athletes in 2013, and will honor Children’s Champions in 2014.
The Breakfast of Champions® speaking series was inaugurated in 1982 with the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce. Honoree George Jenkins, founder of Publix Supermarkets, initiated the tradition of giving each attendee a miniature Wheaties® box with that day’s honoree photo on the back.
“The Executive Women’s Council is so proud of our Breakfast of Champions® speaking series. Not only have we provided outstanding stories of success to our members, but have been recognized for our program by being voted Best Event of the Year in 2012 for a Breakfast of Champions® honoring the K-12 school student winners of the Innovations Express competition for Inventors and Innovators. We also won Committee of the Year for 2012 and 2013”, said EWC Chairman Sherri Ferguson.
