|An interactive and Ongoing Installation
Bradenton, FL (Jan. 17, 2014) – The Once Over Twice, is pleased to announce the interactive and ongoing installation Love Locks that will start coinciding with The Village of the Art’s February Art Walk “Sweetheart Stroll” and will be an ongoing installation that will continue to grow as the public participates.
“A love lock is a padlock which sweethearts lock to a bridge, fence, gate, or similar public fixture to symbolize their love. Typically the sweethearts’ names or initials are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love. Since the 2000s, love locks have proliferated at an increasing number of locations worldwide.” (Wikipedia)
For this interactive installation, artist and owner of The Once Over Twice, Kim Litch, is inviting the public to show their love by locking their own locks of love to the green chain-link fence at the gallery. These locks can be painted with initials or anything you can imagine to show your love of a family member, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend or even a pet! Locks will be available at the gallery to customize and donations are always welcome.
Kim first encountered these Love Locks in Prague and immediately fell in love with the concept and thought the sheer volume of locks created a beautiful visual texture. This phenomenon is particularly popular in Europe, but The Once Over Twice hopes to create a place people want to come be a part of a growing tradition. “I like the idea that you can leave a permanent symbol, a piece of your very existence, in a very public place. You may or may not ever visit that place again, but others will. And even if you forget that it is there, it will forever be seen and recognized by complete strangers.” (Kim Litch)
The Once Over Twice is a located in The Village of the Arts in Bradenton and currently open Friday through Sunday 11-4 and first Friday events. It features a wide variety of functional and sculptural objects made from handpicked upcycled and repurposed materials. Visitors to the gallery will find an eclectic offering including home furnishings, sculptural items, creative shelving, baubles, and decorative pieces. At the once over twice, you will find unique, eye-catching, vintage, and ambiance-defining pieces.
