Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough Counties, Florida – (January 16, 2014) The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) awarded accreditation to the Laboratory at Medical Center of Trinity based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.
The laboratory’s medical director Weber L. Smith, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. “Receiving accreditation through the College of American Pathologists speaks to the level of quality care provided by our staff at Medical Center of Trinity”, says Dr. Smith. “It is an honor to once again receive this accreditation”.
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, in addition to the overall management of the laboratory.
