Program prepares students for social and human service careers in eight consecutive semesters of local study and field work
SARASOTA (January 3, 2014) –The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee will hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) Information Session on January 9, 2014, when prospective students can learn about the MSW, a carefully designed curriculum of core courses, electives and supervised field experience hosted at USFSM. The Masters of Social Work program prepares students for professional social work practice, providing the specialized knowledge and skills necessary for clinical practice with individuals, families and groups, as well as policy making, legislative and other roles.
The MSW program runs in a prescribed cohort format of three courses over eight consecutive terms in a two-and-a-half-year period. Applications are currently being accepted for the next group, which begins August 25, 2014.* As in the past, affiliation with the USF School of Social Work assures that the MSW program is fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. USFSM’s own well-qualified social work faculty provides students in the MSW cohort with the guidance to pursue all of their course work and field placements in the local service area. The MSW degree meets all Council on Social Work (CSWE) standards and prepares graduates with excellent employment opportunities in any state. There is no GRE or bachelor of social work (BSW) requirement.
Classes take place in the evening and one Saturday a month and offer cooperative learning, problem solving, field experience, faculty mentoring and supervision.
Anyone interested in the MSW cohort is encouraged to attend the MSW information session on January 9, 2014 from 4-5:30 p.m. in Selby Auditorium. There will be an opportunity to meet professors, admissions counselors and graduates of the program.
Details on the MSW program are available here: usfsm.edu/social-work.
The deadline to apply for the fall 2014 cohort start at USF Sarasota-Manatee is February 15, 2014.
*A fall 2014 cohort start date is contingent upon a minimum number of qualified acceptances. If a cohort of at least 20 qualified students is not formed the start date will be delayed until January 2015.
