|SARASOTA, Fl.—December 20, 2013— All Faiths Food Bank announced today the delivery of the long-awaited, custom-made mobile farm market named “Sprout.” It is the first of its kind in the area and projected to deliver 64,000 pounds of fresh produce in 2014 to our neighbors in need throughout Sarasota County.
The truck is a one-of-a-kind, mobile market that is equipped with food storage and display shelves, refrigeration, and a remote-controlled awning that provides a shade when parked.
Fresh, seasonal produce will be distributed through a free voucher system for clients identified by All Faiths Food Bank’s network of more than 100 partner pantries, soup kitchens, churches and community centers. Clients will be able to use their voucher to select the garden-fresh fruits and vegetables that they know their family will enjoy, at no charge.
A tasting table will allow clients the opportunity to taste a dish prepared with the ‘featured’ produce selection of the day. They will then receive a recipe and the ingredients to make the dish at home. Information about making nutritious meal and healthy lifestyle choices will be available as well.
“We are committed to providing healthy food and nutrition education to the families we serve,” said Sandra Frank, All Faiths Food Bank Executive Director, “The concept of a mobile farm market was born, and after months and months of collaboration and hard work, we are thrilled to introduce “Sprout” as we celebrate 25 years of feeding our neighbors in need.”
Many private and corporate donors contributed to the project including the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation; Gulf Coast Community Foundation; Bloomberg Philanthropies; the Tom Costello Family; Klein Foundation; Roberta Leventhal Sudakoff Foundation; Joshua J. & Eunice Stone Foundation; Charles O.III & Miriam M. Wood Foundation; and Bank of America.
