|At the annual meeting of the Lighthouse of Manasota, the leadership, staff and Board of Directors honored long-time Lighthouse volunteer Mr. David C. Cruikshank with the naming of the Independent Living Classroom to recognize his more than 22 years of volunteerism on behalf of the Lighthouse.
Mr. Cruikshank has served on the board of directors and was president of the board from 2001 – 2005. Nearly twenty years ago, Mr. Cruikshank spearheaded the creation of an annual golf tournament in honor of his friend and Lighthouse client, Dr. James Morrish, Sr. At the 19th annual event in September, Mr. Cruikshank and his committee reached the goal of $1,000,000 raised over the lifetime of the event, with all proceeds going directly to Lighthouse programs.
In addition, Mr. Cruikshank has also supported the Lighthouse’s Be a Visionary Walk by rallying his friends, family and associates and personally raising more than $100,000 over the eleven year history of the event.
“Having my name on the classroom is truly an honor. The focus of The Lighthouse has always been on the client” said Mr. Cruikshank. “Knowing that 90% of all funds raised go directly toward client services is important to me, and I believe that’s what the Lighthouse has always been about. My Mother was a client and a graduate of the Independent Living program and it changed her life.”
