SARASOTA (December 17, 2013) – From December 23, 2013 to January 3, 2014, the Perlman Music Program/Suncoast will hold the 10th PMP Sarasota Winter Residency at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. Toby Perlman, wife of renowned concert violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman, founded the residency program to offer students life-changing musical training. Violin, viola, cello and bass students from around the globe, aged 12 to 20+, receive unparalleled instruction from Mr. Perlman and internationally acclaimed music faculty. The public residency events include free orchestra and chorus rehearsals, individual recitals and viola and cello master classes. The Perlmans, PMP students and faculty participate in question and answer sessions following many of these events.
“We’re really energized by this monumental anniversary,” says Elizabeth Power, executive director of PMP/Suncoast. “It’s amazing how fast the years have gone by—and how much we’ve accomplished in those years. We’re deeply touched with how the community welcomes our programs each year.”
The public is invited to attend approximately 20 free events, including orchestra and chorus rehearsals, master classes, and works-in-progress recitals. New this year is an open rehearsal and performance with the “PMP/Suncoast Super Strings,” young violinists from Sarasota and Manatee counties who will join the PMP student orchestra in performing a Vivaldi violin concerto under the direction of Itzhak Perlman on January 2.
“It is such a pleasure to host this wonderful program on our campus,” said Dr. Arthur Guilford, regional chancellor. “The Perlman Music Program showcases talented students and is an extraordinary opportunity for our community.”
The full schedule of events is below. Unless otherwise indicated, all events are located in a heated tent at USF Sarasota-Manatee: 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34243.

ABOUT THE PERLMAN MUSIC PROGRAM/SUNCOAST
The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast was established in May 2008 as an independent non-profit organization with the mission to provide operational stability and funding support for a permanent Sarasota winter residency for The Perlman Music Program. Founded by Toby Perlman, and with world-renowned faculty members led by her husband, internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman, The Perlman Music Program augments its seven-week summer program in Shelter Island, NY, with a two-week intensive winter residency each December in Sarasota. The residency provides valuable mentoring and performance opportunities for young string musicians, ages 12-20, and a rich opportunity for community audiences to experience the magic of musical mentoring during more than 20 free events on the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus. The program culminates with a “Celebration Concert,” featuring Itzhak Perlman directing the PMP String Orchestra.
The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast expanded its program offerings to include a year-round Education Outreach Program, which brings PMP alumni, who are now professional musicians, into elementary, middle and high schools in Sarasota and Manatee counties. These curriculum-based, in-school experiences include interactive performances and hands-on training for students and teachers. These acclaimed musicians also present concerts throughout the year as part of PMP/Suncoast’s Emerging Artists Performance Series. For more information, visit www.PMPSuncoast.org.
