12/16/2013 – Tampa, FL – USO Tampa Bay staff and volunteers wrapped up their new holiday program, Operation Stuff a Stocking, by delivering over 200 bags of holiday gifts to military children on Friday. Junior enlisted service members at installations throughout the seven-county Tampa Bay area were invited to create wish lists for their children. Individual and corporate sponsors then purchased items from the wish lists to provide a unique, personalized holiday for these little heroes.
USO Tampa Bay “elves” held a wrapping party Thursday night to prepare the donated gifts for delivery. The truckloads of gifts caravanned across the counties on Friday. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Foster’s squadron was one of the units to receive the donations. “This is what the Christmas season is all about – helping others,” Foster said. “And the USO here in Tampa is an organization that is always providing us support. Not only was their toy donation impressive, but I know the families receiving the donations are also appreciative.”
The USO’s newest campaign, Every Moment Counts, highlights the moments that matter most for our troops and their loved ones and encourages Americans to help make new moments possible that military families can cherish for years to come. Operation Stuff a Stocking was developed to create meaningful expressions of thanks that bring warmth and appreciation to our nation’s heroes and their families.
The USO Welcome Center at Tampa International Airport is the hub from which all USO Tampa Bay programs and services are delivered to the Tampa Bay area military throughout the year. In support of the USO’s mission to lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families, USO Tampa Bay will soon be opening a USO Day Room at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital.
