|BRADENTON,FL-When Basil’s reopened in a new location on Tuesday, November 26, it was animportant milestone for the second oldest restaurant on Manatee Ave. Located inthe Pebble Springs Shopping Center at 5917 Manatee Ave. West, owners Jean andNick Malliaras continue the family tradition that started when Basil’s openedin its first location at Manatee Ave. West on May 4, 1987.
For over adecade Basil’s has been a healthy alternative to fast food. The original menuhas basically remained the same with very few changes. Chicken and ribs arefresh and prepared daily.
When Basil’sfirst opened it was a family affair. Father, Gus, was joined by his sons Bill,Nick and Stavaros. Over the years, things have changed and three more Basil’shave opened.
In the last26 years dozens of restaurants-independents and chains-have opened and closedalong Manatee Ave. . For a small restaurant to succeed for almost three decadesis highly unusual.
Owner NickMalarias says, “Basil’s has remained consistent in its commitment to servefresh, healthy and delicious food at reasonable prices. Additionally many itemsare specifically prepared just to fill an order. We have to deliver everyday-manyof our customers have been with us since we opened. Basil’s always exceeds beyond expectations, that is the key to our success”.
