Sunera Healthcare is pleased to announce that Norma Panther, Auditor III, CPC, CPC-I, CIRCC, CEMC, CCS-P, ICDCT-CM, ICDCT-PCS, CHC, will head its practice areas related to the upcoming, nationwide implementation of ICD-10-CM.
“We are proud to welcome a long-time partner and colleague, Norma Panther, to her new role with Sunera,” said Sunera Healthcare’s Senior Manager, Jeanmarie Loria. “With Norma’s expertise, Sunera Healthcare has ensured it will remain a leading medical record review service through ICD-10 and beyond.”
There is growing concern about the healthcare industry’s readiness to meet the Oct. 1, 2014, deadline to comply with ICD-10-CM. Several studies, including a widely publicized study released in June by the Medical Group Management Association, have suggested that alarmingly few physician practices have made tangible progress toward ICD-10 readiness. In fact, the MGMA study reported that the percentage of practices actively working toward ICD-10 readiness could be as low as 4.8%.
The AAPC – the nation’s largest association of medical coders, billers, auditors, regulatory compliance experts, and physician practice management – issued their own report, finding that only 37% of medical documentation is ready for ICD-10. Without proper documentation, accurate coding and proper payment will be all but impossible.
With the addition of Panther, Sunera Healthcare, already a leader in cost-effective and efficient medical record review services, has strengthened its ability to help healthcare practices develop proper processes, train staff, and prepare documentation ahead of the ICD-10 compliance date. Panther has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry as a medical coder, instructor, coordinator, and compliance auditor/educator. She is the founding member of the Lakeland AAPC Local Chapter and its 2013 vice president.
A previous AAPC National Conference speaker and an experienced medical coding educator, Panther is dedicated to the continued growth and structure of certified coding. She also holds the status of Approved AIHC ICD-10-CM Certified Instructor from the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance and is an AAPC Approved ICD-10 Trainer.
