TAMPA, Fla. (November 19, 2013) – After recently putting the wraps on its annual PINKTOBER program, Seminole Hard Rock Tampa (SHRT) announced today it will donate nearly $90,000 to help fund research for prevention and a cure for breast cancer.
To be precise, SHRT raised $87,176 and that figure far exceeds the $65,000 totaled during SHRT’s 2012 PINKTOBER campaign.
SHRT was also recognized by the City of Tampa for its month-long efforts via a Proclamation issued by Mayor Bob Buckhorn naming October PINKTOBER month.
A major component of SHRT’s 2013 PINKTOBER program was its $50,000 premier sponsorship of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk staged at the Tampa Bay Times Forum last month. As in years past, a large contingent of employees participated in the walk.
SHRT’s team member count in the walk was 258, which represented the largest single walk team in the field. After collecting $18,775, SHRT was the second-highest fund-raising team out of 468 teams.
Other PINKTOBER fund-raising initiatives at the property included room, merchandise and retail sales which totaled $18,401.
This marked the 14th year of Hard Rock International’s support of PINKTOBER and the sixth year of SHRT’s involvement.
“As a global leader in the entertainment industry, we are always proud to lend our resources as part of Hard Rock International’s breast cancer research and awareness campaign,” said SHRT President John Fontana.
Overall, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk raised $575,000 with 17,000 walkers participating. The event drew $200,000 in corporate sponsorship, which was the first time in history that a Making Strides event in Florida hit that benchmark.
