NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (November 19, 2013) – Ashlyn Head, a 14-year-old with a passion for horses and helping others from Dade City, recently received the Youth in Philanthropy Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Nature Coast Chapter in recognition of the funds she has raised for Gulfside Regional Hospice’s Ride for Hospice over the past five years.
“I am so excited to thank hospice,” said Head in her award acceptance speech at AFP’s Award Luncheon and Ceremony. “You do so much for the community and I am so excited to be a part of what you do. So thank you.”
Head has been the top fundraiser at Gulfside’s Ride for Hospice every year since the event began in 2009, raising a total of more than $6,500 to help Gulfside continue to provide hospice care for patients in Pasco County. Head is grateful for the impact that working with Gulfside has had on her life, but she is even more grateful for the chance to be able to impact her community.
Giving back to the community has always been important to me. I love taking part in changing lives for the better, even in the worst times,” said Head. “Altogether this has and will continue to have a lasting impression on my life. I am grateful for this opportunity and the chance I have to make the same lasting impression on others.”
Gulfside Regional Hospice is honored to be the recipient of Head’s continued hard work and dedication to helping people in her community, said Linda Ward, Gulfside’s president and CEO.
We are so grateful for Ashlyn and all she has done for Gulfside Regional Hospice,” said Ward. “She is an outstanding young lady and a gift to this organization. We look forward to seeing her at the next Ride for Hospice next March 16.”
The Ride for Hospice is an annual fundraising event that began in 2009 consisting of a horse trail ride, live music, pony rides for kids, and more. The event is sponsored by Pasco Sheriff’s Mounted Posse to benefit Gulfside Regional Hospice and support hospice care in Pasco County.
