Merriman, President & CEO of Gateway Bank, was recently named winner of the prestigious 2013 Chair’s Cup Award from the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented at the 93rd Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon and second Salute to Business.
The Chair’s Cup Award is in recognition of one outstanding Chamber member who has gone “above and beyond” the call of duty in their contributions of service to the community. Nick Gladding, out-going Chamber Chair, said, “Shaun has helped The Chamber for almost a decade, sharing his extensive experience, expertise, and energy.”
Merriman is a Past Chamber Chair, and contributes an average of 15 to 20 hours per month to various Chamber initiatives. Merriman’s leadership and philanthropic spirit is evidenced in his community endeavors. He is currently Chair Elect for Doctors Hospital, trustee board member of the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child – Sarasota County, board member of the Van Wezel Foundation, executive committee member for American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, and past Chairman for the United Way of Sarasota County. Annually, Merriman averages over 300 hours in total volunteer service to the local community.
The Chair’s Cup has been awarded on an annual basis since 1987, and each winner’s name in inscribed on a plaque. “It is an honor to be the recipient of this distinguished award, and be recognized alongside such talented community leaders,” Merriman said. He continued, “While community involvement helps to create and foster business relationships, I personally choose to become involved in causes that are near and dear to my heart, and where my business knowledge can be most impactful.”
