Entering its 50th year, the prestigious Tony Jannus Award is presented annually for outstanding achievement in the commercial aviation industry. Celebrating those exemplifying leadership and perseverance within the airline industry, the award is named for the pilot of the world’s first airline which was launched nearly 100 years ago on New Year’s Day in 1914, and flew between St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida. It also serves to promote and provide financial support to college students interested in perusing careers in aviation through their Scholar Awards program; the Society also recognizes a high school student for winning the Tony Jannus Statewide Essay contest.
