Which Raises Awareness, Funds Globally
TAMPA, Fla. (November 11, 2013) – In a time where 1.4 billion people live below the poverty line, 820 million people are undernourished and 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes every day, it’s hard to imagine John Lennon’s vision of a world with no hunger.
To that end, Seminole Hard Rock Tampa (SHRT) has announced it will once again partner with Tampa’s Metropolitan Ministries throughout the upcoming holiday season to help feed children and their families.
Using “Knock Out Poverty” as their rally cry, SHRT employees began a 10-day food drive on Monday, November 11. Each department was tasked with gathering food items which were to be collected and weighed prior to delivery to Metropolitan Ministries during its Helping Hands Food Drive Day on Friday, November 22.
On the 22nd, SHRT team members will staff a truck containing at least $5,000 worth of food, which will arrive at the Publix on 1313 South Dale Mabry Highway at 8:30 a.m.
Additionally, employees will volunteer to help staff the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent with 20 slots each for three different shifts available to be filled.
The SHRT effort with Metropolitan Ministries is part of Hard Rock International’s and WhyHunger’s global IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER campaign, which is supported by John Lennon’s wife, artist and musician Yoko Ono Lennon. IMAGINE is a campaign to fight childhood hunger and poverty through the support of sustainable agriculture, education and nutritional feeding programs.
“IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER helps further a vision that John shared in his song ‘Imagine’ nearly four decades ago,” said Yoko Ono Lennon. “This program works to make that vision a reality, hoping to one day eliminate hunger and poverty that affect billions of children and families worldwide.”
To date, IMAGINE has helped communities in 22 countries grow enough food to provide over 7.2 million nutritious meals to children, supported programs that taught over 8,800 family and community members techniques for sustained food production and raised more than $5.6 million to help fight childhood hunger.
From November through December 2013, SHRT will also offer limited-edition IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER merchandise at its Hard Rock Cafe.
IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER merchandise includes men’s t-shirt, scarf, pin and violet, blue or orange bracelet (only sold in Hard Rock Cafes, $2 or more donation). All items are while supplies last. One hundred percent of the net proceeds will be donated to WhyHunger, while 15 percent of the net revenue will also be donated to WhyHunger.
Fans worldwide are encouraged to share their IMAGINE experiences by posting messages, photos and videos via the official social media channels for the 2013 IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER campaign: Facebook.com/HardRock or Twitter.com/HardRock, and hashtag #IMAGINENOHUNGER.
