Southwest FL Well, you certainly cannot say our October luncheon was boring in any way! What a busy and interesting time we had. Larry Kirkland, Public Artist, and the Lead Artist for Patriot Plaza, a ceremonial amphitheater being built at the Sarasota National Cemetery by The Patterson Foundation, despite challenges with microphones, gave us a very interesting preview and history of the art that will be displayed to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
Along with our luncheon speaker, we had the Blue Star Mothers represented by Linda Atkins who was selling wreaths for our national cemetery through the Wreaths Across America program. We encourage everyone to purchase wreaths in order to ensure there is a Remembrance wreath for every gravesite at Sarasota National Cemetery this year. Brigadier General Tom Mazzone was with us signing his book, Operation Deception.
The Patterson Foundation shared information on Patriot Plaza and upcoming events within the Legacy of Valor campaign. We will have a Legacy of Valor table at our luncheons throughout this next year to ensure you are all kept informed of the many ways within our community that you can participate in events that honor veterans.
Last, but certainly not least, we shared with all of you about the Unified Legacy of Valor Opportunity, where The Patterson Foundation in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota is involved in a fund raising campaign to match dollar for dollar all donations of $25-$1000 for 12 different nonprofit organizations in our community that have programs that support those who Have Served, Are Serving or May Serve. The
MOAS Scholarship Fund is one of those organizations and the window to donate is from 15 October through 7 pm on Friday, 15 November!
