Anna Maria, Florida (October 8, 2013)— The Sandbar, BeacHhouse and Mar Vista restaurants, collectively known as the Chiles Group, thanks its employees and patrons for rallying around Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign this September, and helping them to raise $1511.00 to help connect every child in America to the food they need, every day. The restaurant offered to donate one dollar from the sale of every grouper sandwich and every burger from September 16 – 22, 2013, joining thousands of restaurants nationwide in the No Kid Hungry campaign this September.
“One in five children in America struggle with hunger,” says Ed Chiles, owner of the three waterfront eateries. “That’s a number we find completely unacceptable. Our promotion is just one way we can support the No Kid Hungry campaign, with the enthusiasm of our employees and generosity of our customers, to help make sure that every child in America gets the food they need to learn and thrive. It was especially important to participate because 50% of the funds we raise stay local to help kids in our area.”
According to Sandbar General Manager, Joe Rogers, “Once people found out how they could help, they ordered the grouper sandwich or burger and some even order ones to go.” Last year the group raised $1250.00 with the same campaign. Chiles Group Marketing Director, Caryn Hodge states, “We were happy to have raised more funds this year to support this program. We especially want to thank all of our guests who helped us by ordering grouper sandwiches and burgers.”
The nonprofit Share Our Strength uses the funds to connect needy children to effective nutrition programs like School Breakfast and Summer Meals, create public-private partnerships that work together to identify and break down barriers that can keep kids from accessing or using programs like these, and teach low-income families how to stretch their food budgets and cook healthy, affordable meals.
