NOVEMBER 5, 2013 AT THE PALMA CEIA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.
Tampa, Fla, September 2013… The Board of Directors of the World Trade Center Tampa Bay (WTC-TB) recognizes individuals and businesses that have contributed to internationalizing Tampa Bay with the International Commerce Award. This prestigious award recognizes leaders who encourages, fosters, and cultivates international business partnerships that help to promote Tampa Bay.
This year, WTC Tampa Bay is proud to honor the original members of the Tampa Bay International Super Task Force; Frank Morsani, Victor Leavengood, Robert Sharp, and the memory of Parke Wright III in his capacity of Chairman. The International Super Task Force was established to provide leadership and planning to promote economic and cultural activity between the Greater Tampa area and countries around the globe and ultimately was the stimulator of the World Trade Center Tampa Bay.
All four gentlemen have played key roles in the development of Tampa Bay through-out the years. The late Parke Wright III served as past president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce as well as led civic agencies, Greater Tampa United Way and Florida State Fair Association, to name a few. In 1972, Mr. Wright III helped to form Leadership Tampa, a Tampa Chamber organization comprised of the Bay Area’s top industry leaders.
Frank Morsani, an accomplished philanthropist, businessman and community leader, continues to enrich the Tampa Bay community. He is the chairman of Automotive Investments Inc. and trustee of the Frank and Carol Morsani Foundation Inc. His chairmanship on the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center board brought the area culture and artistic expression and his advocacy of education continues to enhance the campuses of the University of South Florida.
Robert Sharp is the chairman of the board of AAA Auto Club South. Under his tenure, the organization has grown to become the third largest AAA affiliate in the nation. Mr. Sharp is an active and important part of his community as well as his profession, participating in numerous civic organizations, and lending his support to the advancement of tourism and the cruise industry and the promotion of Tampa to its current status as one of the top ports in the Southeast.
Victor Leavengood, retired treasurer and secretary of GTE/Verizon Florida, led the task force in the ‘80s, helping to expand internationalization efforts to all counties in the Bay Area. Along with his wife, Lee, Mr. Leavengood are long time philanthropists for the University Of South Florida College Of The Arts. Their continuous commitment to the Tampa community is admirable.
