LIVING HISTORY: AN AFTERNOON WITH THE EISENHOWER’S
SARASOTA (FL) – (October 9, 2013) — On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, the Junior League of Sarasota (JLS) presents David and Julie Nixon Eisenhower as guests of honor and keynote speakers for their 12th annual Legacy Luncheon to be held at Michael’s on East Ballroom beginning at 11 a.m. David Eisenhower is the grandson of general and President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Julie Nixon Eisenhower is the daughter of 37th US President Richard Nixon. Together, they will provide an engaging and informative look into the Presidencies, foreign relations, women in politics and life the White House.
This husband and wife duo, married since 1968, both grew up during the 1950’s and 60’s, giving them first-hand knowledge and experience of life in the high-profile, often enigmatic world of American politics. Having been brought up in very public families, they wanted something different for their own lives, and that of their three children.
The Eisenhowers have declined offers to run for office and have chosen lives away from politics, and celebrity, focusing instead on writing, teaching, lecturing, and community service. They currently reside on a farm in Pennsylvania.
An advocate for children and youth and women in government, Julie Eisenhower serves on numerous boards including the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, fostering leadership in the nation’s most exceptional young adults from 2001-2006. A decorated historian, David Eisenhower is the editor-in-chief of the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s ORBIS journal, is a Fellow of the Society of American Historians and serves on the board of several presidential centers.
Both are prolific authors on topics ranging from Eisenhower: At War, which was named one of the five best nonfiction books in 1986, a children’s cookbook, and the two recently co-authored Going Home to Glory, a chronology of the post-Presidency years of his grandfather.
